Coca Cola CEO: No Impact On Company From Yuan Rise
The Chinese yuan's recent unusually sharp rise isn't affecting Coca-Cola Co. because the company's operations are heavily localized, Chairman and Chief Executive Muhtar Kent said Thursday. 可口可乐公司(Coca-Cola Co.)董事长兼首席执行长穆泰康(Muhtar Kent)周四说，人民币最近的异常大幅升值并未影响到可口可乐，因为公司的运营是高度本土化的。
In an interview, Mr. Kent said that unlike manufacturers of export-oriented products, the Atlanta soft-drink producer does most of its business for the China market within the country. 'We're a very local business,' he said. 'We're not being impacted by that exchange rate...We're not impacted like a typical exporter.' 穆泰康在采访中说，与出口型产品制造商不同，软饮料生产商可口可乐针对中国市场的大部分业务都是在中国国内进行。他说，我们是十分本土化的企业，我们没有受到汇率的冲击，我们不像典型出口商那样受到影响。
The yuan, also called the renminbi, gained roughly 0.8% against the dollar in less than two weeks, after rising only 6% over more than 13 months prior to that. The jump came after the rating firm Standard & Poor's downgraded long-term debt of the U.S., and has sparked expectation among analysts that Beijing is keen to use gains in the exchange rate to offset bubbling inflation. 人民币在不到两周内兑美元升值了约0.8%，之前的13个多月仅升值了6%。人民币是在标准普尔(Standard & Poor's)下调美国长期国债评级后升值的，分析师因而纷纷预计中国想利用人民币升值抵消越来越剧烈的通胀。
Mr. Kent, also now in China as chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council, a Washington-based industry group, suggested U.S. politicians focus too much on China's exchange rate to address trade and investment imbalances between the two countries. 穆泰康目前还在中国担任华盛顿行业组织美中贸易全国委员会(U.S.-China Business Council)主席。他表示，美国政界人士太专注于用中国汇率来解决两国贸易和投资失衡问题。
'It is very difficult to see a situation where because there is a movement in the renminbi that all of a sudden the United States (are) going to manufacture all the goods that are being exported by China to the United States. It's a fallacy to think that,' he said.
他说，很难想象由于人民币有波动，突然间美国就要制造所有那些从中国出口到美国的商品;这种想法是种谬误。
