History has proved the necessity to expand cooperative relations between Asia and Europe, two major cradles of human civilization.// Since the 1980s, Asia, and East Asia particularly, has witnessed a rapid rise to prosperity.// As the world’s most robust economic region, East Asia has attracted worldwide attention over the past few decades with its remarkable achievement.// We urge our EU members to efficiently cooperate with Asian countries to establish a constrictive, stable and equal partnership between the two continents.//

Europe, North America and East Asia have emerged as the world’s three major economic centers.// Europe and North America have already established close ties thanks to our historical links.// East Asia and North America have also established contacts via the forum of the Asian-Pacific economic cooperation.// Comparatively speaking, ties between EU and East Asia remain relatively weak. And EU continues to lag behind the United States and Japan in terms of market share in East Asia.//

A 40-odd year alliance made the European Union the largest trade bloc in the world, with its GDP and foreign trade volume both surpassing those of the United Sates.// In addition, EU nations have unified tariffs and established common foreign trade , agricultural and fishery policies.// The EU will have initially established an economic and monetary union before long.// It has, in other words, become a region that enjoys the highest level of political and economic integration.//
