本文开头的第三句又不一样，照字面译成“这比我能告诉你的还要多”就打错特错了。英语中常用more than这种肯定的形式表示一种婉转的否定。这一句的意思是“这我可不能告诉你了。”
下面例句都表示婉转的否定：

要做好这件工作，光靠毅力是不够的。

他很明智，不会被胜利冲昏头脑。

你不应该这么不小心。
这一句如果译成“你本来可以更小心一些”语气太轻。要特别注意类似的虚拟语气的用法。
